Nakase Brothers Nursery
Problem:
Problem: Nakase Brothers grows and delivers
potted
plants to major retailers. Their existing
system produced labels that could not
withstand the retail sales environment.
Heat, moisture and fertilizers caused
the printing to fade, while the dirt on
the pots caused the adhesive to fail.
Solution: • Label House provided
a system designed to automatically
apply labels to different size pots.
Manual labeling was eliminated. • UPC code and
human readable variable information printed
with a thermal transfer printer. Dual
labeling helped eliminate
errors. • Labels were changed
to synthetic material with a heavy coat
weight adhesive. • A wax/resin thermal
transfer ribbon added durability to the
printed UPC code.
Results: • The improved
label and adhesive eliminated charge backs
and returns. Annual savings of $50,000. • Automation
of labeling process reduced labor costs,
with annual savings of $40,000. • Increased
sales to large retailer due to higher
vendor scorecard. • Increased
production to meet demand of increased
sales.
